Hands Off Mother Earth (HOME) helps shut down the Arctic Ice Project! WINNING!
The Arctic Ice Project, formerly known as Ice911, has “the difficult decision to conclude our research and begin the process of winding down operations” marking a huge win for the fight to ban controversial geoengineering projects. The project was spreading hollow glass microspheres (HGM) on arctic ice and in the ocean to reflect sunlight. The founder of the Arctic Ice Project has left the project to pursue other geoengineering ideas at the Bright Ice Initiative (BII).
How Can Glass Beads Slow Arctic Ice Melt?
The most promising solution to date, currently at Technology Readiness Level 3 (of 8), is a novel materials approach that proposes to deploy a thin layer of very small hollow glass microspheres across strategically chosen small regions of the Arctic to improve the reflectivity of sea ice, mimicking natural processes to reflect solar energy out of our atmosphere and restore the Arctic.

Civil society networks, including Indigenous Peoples, climate justice advocates, and environmental organizations, are celebrating the shutdown of the Arctic Ice Project (AIP). The project's decision to cease operations, citing ecological concerns, marks a significant moment in both local community led and global resistance to geoengineering and harmful technofixes.
The Arctic Ice Project, which proposed spreading reflective synthetic silica-based microspheres on Arctic sea ice to slow its melting, faced years of criticism from Indigenous communities for its potential to disrupt delicate Arctic ecosystems and perpetuate climate inaction. This outcome sends a strong signal to proponents of geoengineering that the global community will not accept risky experiments that endanger ecosystems and communities.
This risky and controversial technofix is emblematic of geoengineering approaches that try to treat the symptoms rather than address the root causes of climate change. The shutdown of this project is a timely reminder that such speculative technofixes cannot replace systemic change Just last year, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) made a decision to reinforce the precautionary approach to geoengineering and reaffirmed the existing de facto global moratorium on geoengineering.
This victory also comes off the back of other recently failed geoengineering projects like Alameda marine cloud brightening project, Harvard backed SCoPEx project and the shut down of the Running Tide company.

We are concerned for the community members in Utquiavik who were made to spread football fields of this material onto their frozen lake. But there's definitely LESS of the motherfuckers.
Yay!!! We need every single sky "spraying" project to stop!! Forever! Address pollution in other ways...like at the pollution's source. Don't treat the symptom, treat the root cause!
